I mean, you can always try. Just don’t quit your current job or Let them know you’re looking for another job until you’ve secured one. You could also bring up this conversation with current leadership team about what’s the next steps you need to take to grow in a role.
Thanks for the heads up! Yes, I don’t want to quit before I have something lined up. The current job I have is kind of cushy but I literally have no drive every day.
Coach
40% is a significant increase, that's enough to seriously consider moving if the commute is such a challenge for you.
I had a 30-min commute 5 days a week at my last job, which was miserable, but it was a huge stepping stone in my career. After a couple years we were looking to move closer, but I ended up landing a much better role out of state.
You should be testing the waters at this point. It's better to have options, even if you decide to stay
Yes, in the long run when you have higher salary base, that means you also have more negotiating power in your future roles.
It depends what matters to you more - the salary bump or keeping that remote work set up? So I would suggest weighing your pros and cons. See if the 40% bump really will make a difference in your finances and if it's worth being in the office 3x a week. If you really value being remote, it may be worth to stay at your current job.
I’m the same guy that replied a little earlier. I don’t know what you do or how many hours you actually put in but let’s assume we put in 40 hours a week or so maybe look for a side gig when times are tough and even not and I have certain skills, but I go to a trader Vicks or Trader Joe’s rather I set up a table out in the front sharpen knives and I get 10 to 15 bucks a knife I can knock out 15 knives a day in four hours pretty good cash. I also have a headlight restoration company and we basically go out and everybody’s headlights are fogged upso I’m gonna I believe I’m gonna start franchising these, but I don’t know where you’re located but if you wanna give me a call, I’m in San Diego Poway but look for a side gig maybe estate sales or whatever good luck.
If you're concerned that you've got no clear path of being promoted, going into the hybrid situation could be a smart move. There's a saying: "People get promoted, names on a Slack channel don't." There's something to be said for being visible in an office. People have become fixated on working remotely, but if you want to advance in your career it may not serve your purposes.
How do they evaluate you regarding work performance when it comes to remote work?
I’m glad you asked. They actually started doing staffing to work load here a few times.
I’m short of a filter less old guy with nothing but usually the best intentions to help folks. First question are you really any good? Are you? Do you deserve a promotion you’ve been there for years. It seems like I agree with you but if if you’re no good, then you don’t get a promotion and you’re lucky to have a job so let’s presume that you’re up to snuff. Secondly, have you talked to your supervisor and laid it out to him you know what I’m doing a lot of job. I’ve been here for years. I’ve tried Tru trusted and it’s time for promotion and a cover my ass. I might just sniff around a little bit. See what’s available in your professional good luck, my friend.
Yes, I am very good. I actually took on more duties to be noticed and I’ve told every supervisor what my intentions are and what path I wanted. All they said was that I need to stay in the department for 2 years and it’s nearing 4 years. Every year we have a new supervisor and I tell them the same thing. But the job that they have is so stressful and also they are keep getting let go by upper management. The kicker is that the last super was let go unexpectedly but was arguably the best one. Heck I even offered to interview candidates and helped get one of the guys on our team a job!
It depends on your current goals. If your goal is to receive a higher salary and you're willing to commute to work, then the higher-paying position you mentioned might be a good fit. It sounds like you're looking for a promotion, in which case you might think about whether the hybrid position has more influence in the other company than your current role does at this company. Your next step is up to you, but follow your goals! I hope this helps.
