I was unemployed for 8 months. Don’t sweat it. Even 18 months is not a huge deal. You’re the one who cares about it the most. They really won’t ask and if they do just say you were spending time doing whatever (hobbies, family, learning skills, etc) and looking for a job that would be the right fit. And you’re so happy this one looks like a great one for you.
Rising Star
Dude 11 months. And it’s not getting easier. Just keep swimming. Start an LLC
Say you were volunteering. Hopefully you can find someone to back that up. Like helping kids learn to read at the library.
Rising Star
This but ACTUALLY do some volunteering.
Say you were caring for a terminally ill family member. They’ve passed and you are ready to get back to work.
Ooooooh… hit a spot looks like. I’ve no idea who raised you or what values you were taught, but not pushing anything man. Just stating basic truths. Peace out!
As a hiring manager, it’s not a big factor to me. Life happens. If life happens so much someone has three separate eight month gaps, I would have some questions.
Honestly in this economy I think it’s pretty easy to understand why.
Talk about any projects you’ve done. What role are you looking for
Did you avail unemployment?
Is there something that would discourage one from just honestly attributing that lost time to this job market and overall economy? Assuming this scenario is in the U.S., we all have lived through the last year together. We’re all acutely aware of the condition and times…
I think the fear is that you will appear undesirable. Why didn’t someone else hire you already if you’re good? Why should I hire you now if they didn’t?
We all know there’s luck and it’s a numbers game but not sure you want to explicitly state to that to a potential employer.
Thank you everyone!
I just said I solo traveled for 6 months and created fun conversations
Find side projects or invent your own. Do some course, volunteer hours in a sector you want to work in… stay busy and keep your chin up
The economy is rough and everybody gets it.
