Why would it be surprising? From a budget standpoint, they can do more DEI checkboxes, and have the ad run in multiple markets. Many times they’ll also make the Black character LGBTQ or even disabled to cover more ground. I think it’s just lazy, cheap marketing headed by decision makers who aren’t POC with power.
I had been noticing that. That article raises a good point about how advertising, by erasing black families, does a real disservice. It sends a negative message by omission to our children. I would imagine the people writing and casting the commercials don't even notice or care about that. So that's an issue where they should be made aware of potential negative impact of their work.
When I was a CW years ago, I did the casting and/or had approval and we didn’t do one-type-fits-all markets. I would make efforts to have different families represented over taking this shortcut.

A good friend and I have been talking about this. There really is a movement to hide the Black family in all things, almost watering it down in a sense. It’s amazing when you think about it. Amazing and very sad/frightening.
I had been noticing that but like everyone else I was not one bit surprised by this. Its just like anything else these days. The have always done a disservice to black people everywhere but they really don't care.
