“Reflecting on and adopting the use of micro-affirmations would be a positive strategy to prevent microaggressions. Micro-affirmations are small acts that foster inclusion, listening, comfort and support for people who may feel isolated or invisible in their environment. Focus on action, not avoidance – create new good behaviours.”

Counterpoint: Having one or two people as the lone representation for the potential POC perspective is tokenism and can be just as bad as having none
Counterpoint: You alone can't be a voice for diversity.
The onus of why diversity is good shouldn’t lie on your shoulders. A person of color doesn’t owe an agency any more than just doing a good job. Right in front of your nose, this may feel good but zoom out to the bigger picture and you’ll realize that the situation you’ve been put in is kinda gross. My two cents at least
While that is really great that you’re happy to engage as one of the few POC, you need to use that voice to open the door for more lower level talent, and heck, even people at your level! Younger/lower level talent will see you as an example as a leader that “made it” in a predominantly white agency. I’m happy that you’re in that position to make work better or call out instances that could make something crappy and possibly offensive! :)
@SS1 It shouldn’t be on OP. But if the work is doper off the strength of their input, maybe the whole team could be too? Tall order but what’s the next step for a director?
OP and I’d hope you’re using your position to help move others up...
Why should the onus be on OP to hire more minorities? Like being the one POC isn't hard enough.
