The remote vs. on prem battle highlights how bad performance measurement is. If someone can perform at an acceptable level, it doesn’t matter where they are. If you have no idea whether or not they are performing, checking the temperature of their office chair is a pretty poor proxy for actual business results. And, if someone isn’t working while you aren’t right behind them, what makes you think they’re working when you are a few cubicles over, and not monitoring them?

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?

I spent two years as an executive, and while I was providing what I believe was impactful work, and receiving praises across the board, I got fired from one day to the other without any explanation.
