Boston Consulting Group I’m an experienced consultant (8 years consulting). I’m interviewing for a people and org role at BCG. I haven’t cased since undergrad. I know cases are a huge part of BCG’s interviews, but for experienced hires, can anyone share how important they are and any advice on what to focus on? Thanks.

Are you interviewing for a generalist consultant people & org role? At what level? For Consultant level, I’d guess cases are ~80% of eval

Of course! Good luck, and feel free to DM me if you need anything. Also happy to connect on LinkedIn.

If your job position is specifically for the People and Organization practice, then you’re applying for the Expert Track. You’ll likely have one case interview and two oral interviews, but this is somewhat subjective depending on what expertise we’d want to test you on. Focus on knowing your topic. It’s much harder to enter the Expert track because you need to truly have industry-leading knowledge of your topic, or enter as a lower level Expert (I’d recommend entering as a Consultant, not Project Leader).

That is true, unfortunately. It’s really hard to evaluate experts through cases, so it’s really up in the air. Some of our experts are mid-career with 15+ years of experience that literally no one else in the world can bring, so doing a case eval might not make sense. Trust your recruiter, they are there to help you. We need good experts since they are far and few.

I’m leaning towards the PE firm bc it’s more hands-on, faster learning curve, and higher TC, but the VC role seems to have a better WLB and generally sounds cooler (getting exposed to VC vs continuing in the corporate world). What do you think?

I’m a 2nd year and effectively just ran a deal on my own with the partner. It ran smoothly, I got praise from the partner, and the partner said that they trust me to do most stuff without their sign off (so no need to check with them in future unless I’m really unsure). Generally there is one or two mid levels above me, and I find it way harder to do my job when they are managing me. They like to keep me on the bench, get me to do minor tasks and don’t let me take responsibility and ownership.
