Boston corporate (M&A, general, ecvc) 4th year looking to make a move. I’ve seen the posts re: mintz, Cooley, Goodwin, wsgr w/r/t ECVC work and the partner movement. What firms are busy? Where are people actually happy at (lol) ? Any PE firms willing to take an M&A associate with no true PE experience?

Lol @ Mintz in this list.

likefunny

Every time we get a client from Mintz, it’s always tons of drama because we have to spend so much time to clean mistakes Mintz created. Clients usually reacted same way “Mintz told us this is not important 🫠”, then clients get fined by SEC or states… even put Mintz on that list with the other four firms is ridiculous.

For those who want some lighter reading on Marx, I can recommend this. Each chapter starts with a standard anti-Marx argument and then gives the rebuttal. The left can sometimes be a bit “I can’t believe you disagree, I won’t even engage’ but this means we are often not well rehearsed to oppose the other side of the argument.

Would love to hear your considerations if his neo-hegalianism within economic policies are worth voting for even in the face of his fascistic tendencies

Is it a good idea to accept LinkedIn invites from people you don't know or don't send any type of note along with their invite? I'm all for networking, but shouldn't a stranger send a note saying why they want to connect with you? (i.e. we work in the same industry and thought it might be good to connect?)

Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. For what it’s worth, my firm treated the day after thanksgiving as holiday and I didn’t have to work for the whole day.

Lawyer Couples:
I’m currently an associate (no kids) in a very busy corp group (think 50-60 billable weekly). My wife works significantly less (currently part time, 10-15, but hopefully will be full time soon). I find myself getting upset when asked to help with basic household things (trash, cooking etc.) when she’s been lounging around watching Netflix all day. Am I being reasonable or am I a misogynist? How do you deal with one person having significantly more free time than the other?

Are there any books or other resources that mid levels/seniors/counsel/partners on here have found helpful for the project management / managing junior attorney aspects of your job?

I am not finding a lot of stuff written for lawyers specifically , but there is a lot directed at “managers” in business generally that I imagine could be applicable.

Joined a big firm (Big4) not long a go and starting to feel like I got a good grip on my current work.

Can any seasoned lawyer share tips and materials (i.e. books) which can help?

Litigators—how many different cases are you on?

Been feeling spread too thin lately but I don’t know whats typical. Curious what others do. And would you mind sharing whether you’re a junior, midlevel, partner, etc??

I realize sheer number of cases doesn’t tell the whole story… obviously you can be buried on one massive case. I’m finding it hard to jump back and forth between everything I have going on right now, though, but I don’t know if the answer is to just deal with it.

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.
