Bought an old house and wondering, would you advise having a window replacement company replace a few windows or have a handy man take care of it?

Company bc they should be insured and can guarantee work

like

I would find a good, capable handyman to do it and save alot of money. These big companies charge crazy prices lmao

like

But a highly reviewed handy man would also be capable. The insurance isn’t a big deal because home insurance covers hail damage, and there’s manufacturer’s warranty. I’m just looking for ways to bring down a potentially enormous bill

Homeowners insurance doesn’t cover issues if they create some sort of damage due to the age of the home.

Company’s also warranty the work and product.
Also, what if the handy man can’t has some kind of issue and can’t come back and finish or fix issues for weeks on end?

If this a huge project why go cheap on labor? You’re not hanging pictures up. And does the handyman have experience with replacing windows?

I went from making $70k the last 7 years to now started a new job a month ago making $130k plus $10k bonus every year, and $60k in RSUs. I have $70k in my 401k and around $50k in savings. Want to get out of the Silicon Valley which has been home my whole life and buy in TX or AZ a ~$400k house. I have about $20k in student loans which my dad has offered to pay (wants to make up for never supporting me) but I’m waiting to see what Biden decides for student loans. Is this feasible? Credit is ~615

Anybody here a FTB in London, UK?
If so what kind of mortgage rates are you expecting?

I’m really discouraged. My after tax / after 401k contributions etc. take home pay is $6,500 monthly. I have $60,000 in savings / stocks for a down payment but even looking at a $550,000 home, my monthly payment would be about $3,400 from the calculators I’ve been using. Is that too high?

So discouraged that houses where I live are about 50% higher than what they were 2 years ago, and now interest rates are around 5.25% for my credit score. This is like a 1750 sq foot home

Buying new home first time in Austin, what you recommend to do 10% down payment or 20%. If I do 20% then saving around 60k in a year. Considering inflation is coming and house prices is going down day by day.

If I see one more article on how millennials are ruining the economy or housing market by not buying enough homes or selling enough homes I'm going to scream. We were saving for 3 years before Covid and had to use a solid chunk to take care of ourselves and our families during quarantine. Now that we're ready to save again inflation and COL are at an all-time high and we're headed into a recession. And somehow this is my fault for what...not being a boomer? Bffr.

With interest rates between 6.5% and 7.5%, it is safe to say that buyers are slowing down in their search.

I am a real estate agent who is in the process of closing on her first home. We offered $15k under list and asked for closing costs to be paid for. Granted, this is in a very small rural town; however, just know... If you have been looking for a home for the last 2 years and have not had great luck, now is the time to take advantage of the changing market. You can refi when rates drop.
