Generally speaking, for Big 4 (which D is in):
MD: 300-450k
Principal/Partner: 500k for first few years, around 700k average, ~ 1M+ for service line/network leaders
How much is the base out of 300-450k?
In Big 4, the only difference between the Principal and Partner title is that a Partner has a CPA. Usually they are used interchangeably in conversation.
The MD position is usually used as A) a 1-2 year holding position prior to Partner/Principal promotion or B) a position for older folks that are too advanced in age for the equity buy-in obligation asked of Partners to financially make sense.
I am! But regardless of this, I view it as top of big4 and I am unclear of value prop of other tier 2s (ATK?) in digital biz transformation space and consumer centric work (which is my career focus). I am mid career stage and trying to evaluate what to aim for in my career.
Thank you! And the difference is Partner focuses most on selling vs. delivering and have to put equity into the firm? Is that right? And is it harder to get on principal track vs. MD generally speaking?
