Advice needed - boyfriend has almost 3.5 years of finance experience at a bank. Interviewed for PwC valuation senior associate and now recruiter says they want to hire him at “experienced associate” because he has no valuation experience. Is this too big of a step backwards in career? Should he push back and see if it gets him anywhere? If he does accept Associate, is it reasonable to ask for written, definitive timeline (1 year?) for promo to Senior upon meeting standards? Help!

Seriously, that would have to be a fat bonus to keep me around a year…
Honestly, that’s tough. $40k bonus next summer is right about the level where it’d probably be worth it to power through another year for most people unless it’s a totally hellish situation.
In my personal experience, and from many anecdotes I’ve read in recent years, firm culture has noticeably fallen off at many firms so you’re not alone in your frustrations… Unfortunately, post-NMC investment, GT culture has changed, and not in the good way.
Any time your firm is acquired, it sucks. The changes in culture/process/whatever feel miserable at first. I know a bunch of people who worked at smaller firms that were acquired by Marcum and they had similar things to say as what you're saying about CBIZ. Sometimes it's just a 'let the dust settle' situation.
Having worked with teams that were acquired by my firm, the first year is always hardest. I think with the amount of money you're talking about, I would stay. If after the bonus you're still unhappy, find your next opportunity!
How much is the bonus?
Looks like 40k due to deferring
What do you miss about your culture? We’re going thru the same at Baker Tilly where we will be publicly traded soon so this shit is in our future
