Happy Monday! Heads be rollin today 🙃
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Buddy take this from someone with 15+ years experience. I've seen the MBB dream really destroy peoples lives and careers because they were so tunnel visioned on MBB, dont make it the alter of jobs at which you're willing to die at. Always keep interviewing for MBB, but on the side. Your goal should be anything else not MBB
💯
If you have the ability to go to a US T15 or INSEAD instead, then do it. Much higher chance of landing MBB/T2 from those, including Canadian offices. Chances from any Canadian MBA are extremely limited.
I went to a T15 and pretty much all Canadian students that were interested in MBB in Canada got interview invites at the minimum. Meanwhile, most people I know who went to Roman/Ivey didn't get a single MBB/T2 interview invite. They all ended up at non-strategy B4 roles.
Limited spots + you’re competing with all the top US schools.
The cream of the crop from Canada doesn’t go to Rotman/Ivey, they go to HBS/GSB/Kellogg/LBS, etc.
Overall, there’s a shot, but you REALLY need to stand out.
You'd be a strong candidate but there just aren't too many openings. MBB also hire out of target schools in the US for their Canadian offices so it's very competitive, especially in this market.
T2 seats are even more limited lol
Your chances are decent but we haven’t properly restarted hiring yet. No approved targets despite some recruiting events going on. Still too many people.
Pretty decent
How old are you? Worth trying to go straight to the MBB exit?
Does corp strat / development roles hire out of MBA?
Pro
Nobody can quantify this for you.
Get a good GPA, focus on meaningful networking, and get great at case/fit prep. As somebody who was part of T2 campus recruitment - lots of folks have great profiles (4.0GPA, scholarships, relevant ECs etc) but there are only a few slots so those interactions with the firm are pivotal for showing if you’re client ready, coachable, intellectual, and if the team would enjoy working with you.

Rotman releases grades to employers. Assuming others might be doing that too
Decent shot. Even in a tough year, a decent chunk of the top classmates and I got MBB or T2 but some missed out due to Strategy& and OW not recruiting, and they would normally take a few per year from Ivey. Succeeding will be based on your networking and case prep, but once you get to the interview stage, you're just as prepared as top US school candidates and Rotman.
