How did you determine what field to go into?

Hi all.
Has anyone in IBM been on bench for more than 4 months here?
I have been on bench for almost 4 months now & have been getting automated mails asking me to get assigned to a project by searching one by myself, else necessary action might be taken.
And are there any chances of being straightaway fired based on these automated mails?
I would genuinely need an advise from someone who is aware of this kind of situation.
Thanks in advance

Technology & capital markets. Intentionally chose technology because it’s cool to me, but I accidentally became my old firms go to for capital markets after just being staffed on a few. So I stuck with it.
I got assigned a life sciences project day 1 at the firm and continued to get staffed on similar projects. So no choice really but I’m happy with where I ended up
I'm a college financial aid consultant, and I initially got into the field by accident. I was trying for admission, since I had interned in admission while I was going to undergrad, but no one was hiring inexperienced counselors, so I decided to try university financial aid, entry level.
Ultimately, working at university in financial aid proved to be overwhelming and the office I worked in was a toxic high pressure environment, but if I hadn't started there, I wouldn't have been able to move into it on the consulting side.
After a year working at a lesser-known firm, I've landed a lead role where I am designing a financial aid advising program at one of the first & oldest college admission consulting firms in the US.
My only issue with this job is that it doesn't pay enough; October - February is the "busy season," but once the beginning of March hits, students go radio silent and the earnings fall off a cliff.
Still figuring out that piece, but overall, I really love what I do and that I sometimes get to pay forward my knowledge to other veterans who need assistance navigating the college financial aid application process.
