Curious. Studying vs Experience.
How many of you started studying and a lot of things at work or in your own life have cleared up? That "Ahha!" Moment when you do your own or a family member's taxes or when you finally understand a topic that confused you in school or at work?

Was it due to studying for the CPA that helped or was it actual work/life experience (or both).

Finally saw WACC and “Working Capital” show up and didn’t feel threatened by it lol. Def due to studying.

Hey Fishes,

Currently I’m looking for an opportunity with Big 3 firms.

Presently working with a Big4 firm.
Yoe : 5 years (before MBA)
Qualification : BE, MBA (tier 1)

I’m interviewing with another firm next week. Has anyone made a switch like that before? How did you do it? I work in a small criminal firm now. Interview is with a same size/practice area firm.

We’d love to hear success stories of the extreme. Has anyone gone from low ranking bottom class struggling for work to a rewarding career, both fiscally and mentally? The more contemporary the better, since the legal education, landscape and job market has drastically changed in the millennium.

Hello!
I’m a student majoring in Software Engineering. I’m starting my third year in a few months and have an internship where I’m learning more about working with an actual team on real-world projects. However, I feel like I need to do more to stand out and have a stronger software background. Anyone have any tips or suggestions for what I should do on my own time to strengthen my skills?

Anyone ever considered contractor gig in Meta/Facebook or any other big players in tech? I'm full-time in a smaller company and it's pretty stable. Wondering if the move could be worthwhile. Mostly want to explore other areas. Other things to consider: planning for babies in the next 3-5 years; maternity leave in current position is basically what's legally required.

Outside of FAANG, what are good large CA-based tech companies that provide good pay, WLB, and culture? DD has great people and WLB, but pay is low and you’re not given the tools and resources to succeed + truly make an impact. Google and Apple are ideal but need backups. Like is Salesforce still good? A company along those lines.

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? How do you feel about you are not progressing anymore and seeing other people progressing in their career? I have no intention to make partner, but still feel a bit stuck not doing that much.

New York folks:
Are you aware of the CPA exam credit extension to 2021 for NY CPA candidates impacted by COVID19? It’s on a person-by-person basis and you need to request the extension. Has anyone tried doing this yet? Can anyone shine more light on this? The extension would really help me, but I’m not sure what more to tell them in my email than the fact that I couldn’t sit for the exams this Spring/Summer due to test centers closing in NYC.
