Umm experienced BA at McKinsey is 120
Base for an experienced hire BA will be AT LEAST 115. Could easily see them raising that number at end of year to match the market. Pay progression is pretty quick.
M3 thanks. If someone came in with an mba from university of Phoenix they would get the same comp as an M7??
165k 3 years out of undergrad and your complaining… wake the f up

Ops question is valid in this scenario. If you don’t want to read about high consulting comp get out of the compensation bowl.
Based on your yoe, McK will try to hire you at 110k base max. Tbh it might be lower because that’s what I was offered for a level above BA after 6 yoe at a Fortune 20 company (no Mba). EYP offered me 180k base so I went with them (just bumped to 195k). Don’t get blinded by MBB and cost yourself.
This is completely wrong. EYP 1 does not know anything

I would stay at your current situation
Do the math on what your progression looks like at your current place. 65k drop is HEAVY but if you know you’ll make it up in 1-2 years (mck promo & bonus + slow progression at your current), it could be worth it.
3yoe at 165 sounds like you’re at a T2, so financially, I don’t see if this makes sense.

Lol that’s awesome! Good for you. Money is clearly not an issue and sounds like never will….MBB for growth and exit ops is clearly the best move.
1) what do you do to make 165 now, and,
2) why would you ever consider a 65k decrease to go somewhere else
Feel like we’re missing a ton of info
Zero reason to ever take a hit that big on compensation unless you're doing a full career pivot
Gf was hired as an exp hire BA and base was $115k in July of last year, friend joined exp hire BA in Feb and it was $130k. Heard salaries are jumping again earlier this week. Come to McK.
It just means they’ve gotten in trouble poaching people from your firm and can only take someone if they apply prior to a recruiter interaction
@KPMG 1
1. I’m just a general management consultant I negotiated hard they offered and that’s total comp I make 145 w a 12% bonus
2. I would leave for MBB, for the exit options & the prestige I assume lol but really would like to get a free MBA.
as someone with a t12 mba, take the mbb offer even if its a slight knock on your income. you will make that up quickly in your late 20’a early 30’s.
That said, the mbb then mba path is gonna be a lot of work. Depends on what you want out of life but it’ll be gogogo for a bit.
Read your responses. Honestly I dont get why you’d move for that deep a pay cut.
You are at a more senior level and clearly a high performer at your current firm. This gives you way better exits than a significantly more junior role at a slightly more prestigious firm. If you aren’t looking to pivot out of consulting, why not stay put?
At Mck your income trajectory is basically guaranteed to pop off better than anywhere else in the industry, plus your exits are just a totally different caliber. Current 2nd year analysts who scored above avg got their base bumped to like $130 and expect a ~10-20% bonus.. first year EM’s get to about $240 tc, second year EM’s up around $300 tc. Plus, BCG just bumped their bases across the board and McK is likely to match or do something to respond.
Not saying you should leave your current gig, just some additional things to consider
Aim for associate at M?
If OP doesn’t know the salary, they probably haven’t even interviewed yet. The recruiters at McK tell you the salary in the first conversation.
This is my second time interviewing…and never heard about it in all rounds of interviews.
If base out of undergrad starts at 100k nowadays I’d expect the experienced BA to be a bit more. Based on what you’ve mentioned above (you’ll do it for 100k & you’re far from going hungry with or without a job lmfao) it’s a no brainer.
Experienced hire based will be like 135 this year with raises. Add in bonus of 60k which was experienced hire bonus last year and you’re close to 200k. It’s a good move, because you can then go direct to EM
