Daily Reflection:

A TURNING POINT

July 11
A great turning point in our lives came when we sought for humility as something we really wanted, rather than as something we must have.

“Either the A.A. way of life becomes one of joy or I return to the darkness and despair of alcoholism. Joy comes to me when my attitude concerning God and humility turns to one of desire rather than of burden. The darkness in my life changes to radiant light when I arrive at the realization that being truthful and honest in dealing with my inventory results in my life being filled with serenity, freedom, and joy. Trust in my Higher Power deepens, and the flush of gratitude spreads through my being. I am convinced that being humble is being truthful and honest in dealing with myself and God. It is then that humility is something I "really want," rather than being "something I must have."

Hi everyone!

I'm a recent undergrad, just started my first job in July at a data consulting startup, yet 1 month into training (got a Snowflake cert), was suddenly laid off along with half of the firm.

I'm now looking for any opportunities or advice in entry-level data analyst/business intelligence/consulting roles (preferably ones that sponsor OPT/H1B).

My major was Applied Math and Econ. I know R really well and also am familiar with SQL and Python. Thanks in advance for your time!

I have developed new never worked territories, and have target recruited for everything from cyber to mechanics. I was also a trainer responsible for over 90 recruiters in seven states and four countries. What type of work should I be looking for as I get out. I do have a bachelors in human resources

I just started my first day at a startup (on the executive team) but a new friend of mine wants to utilize me as a part-time portfolio manager/financial advisor given my entrepreneurial, VC, & operational background. His holdings are $10m+ and mostly in real estate but he wants to get more involved in tech investing. I have a background in both and it won’t violate my obligations. What terms should I offer him? I was thinking: 1% AUM and 10% profits. Please offer any advice.

My sibling is currently going through opioid withdrawal and my family and I would like her to go to detox. She’s insisting that detox isn’t helpful, and just makes her want to use (She has run from detox 5x over the past 4 years). She would like to detox at home instead, but if she is going to go to rehab, I she needs to spend at least some time in detox.

Should we let her detox at home or is this just asking for trouble? Can provide more details in the comments, but there is a character limit

4+ months sober. I do zoom AA every day but this was the first time I shared as a newcomer. I have some phone numbers from the group and hoping to get a sponsor soon. I plan to be sober 1 year before I can think of doing the steps. I read Living Sober and The Big Book every day in addition to prayer and mindful meditation. But would love to chat with someone “telephone therapy” can be something like Discord or WhatsApp.

Just wanted to post an update. 68 weeks ago I posted about my drinking problems. It was bad. It’s been 8 months now without a single drink. I still can’t believe it. I still miss drinking. I’ve sat with coworkers and watched them drink. It’s not nearly as fun, but I am so thankful each morning I can hold my head up high. Will I drink again? I only said I would quit for 60 days. Can I have a beer? Some wine? A fine bourbon? I sometimes crave it. I guess there is the answer! You can all do this!

SEEKING OPINIONS & FEEDBACK: I love the honest & practical discussions here, where people can freely identify things that are going on & seek guidance.

Wondering whether anybody’d be interested in some kind of more purposeful community- i.e., gathering w/fellow lawyers to pursue some specific mental health & well-being goals? We’d provide some counseling/coaching type content, in bite sized chunks, but have regular discussions to connect & encourage one another on applying the content IRL.

Been running on self-will for the duration of this lockdown. My reserves that I built up in this program are depleted. Thankfully I was able to attend a meeting this evening, and the topic was 3rd step. Funny how that happens. Good reminder that a life run on self-will can hardly be a success.

Does anyone have any advice for supporting and coping with someone going through withdrawal? My husband is trying to quit his weed addiction and he has been irritable and mean since he quit. His mood is erratic and he is constantly annoyed w me. I don't even know how to bring this up without setting him off. Just feel like I'm walking on eggshells and I'm emotionally exhausted at this point. Is there anything I can do to help him? Is there anything I can do to help myself cope?

I left my last job because I didn't appreciate the culture (B4). However, it was probably because I was a terrible employee. However, I do find that my clients love me 10x more than my consulting colleagues. I joined a smaller firm to cover up the problem.

I drink during the day. I know it's the main reason for my ability to be a productive employee. Anyone else deal with this? I'm trying to control it through moderation management, Dharma meetings, therapy, and white knuckling.

I started working for a bank and am going through the background check. They found an arrest which was dismissed and the file was sealed a few days after the check. They’re requesting the police report on top of the court order to seal. The police report is BAD. During the arrest (DUI) they wrote the report to make me seem like a complete lunatic. Embellished on several elements of the case. I am worried that giving them this report will cause me to be let go.

1st of all: I’m super inspired by this bowl. I’m now mid-30s and recently went 50+ days without drinking and felt good/productive. (Longest streak since before turning 21) But how do you stick with it? I’m conflicted bc I haven’t hit a “rock bottom” and part of me loves a glass of wine to unwind and mark the end of the workday, but I also have a hard time stopping once I start (no such thing as 1 glass). Feel boarder-line between these 2 worlds and unsure where to go. Anyone feel similar?
