Why would I care? If you pass the test then you get to be a CPA
I don't think we're in risk of them keeping it up.
I think a larger scale overhaul is needed. For far too long the CPA exam and curriculum focus has predominantly been centered around public accounting solely. I think either adjusting the curriculum and testing to include more corporate dynamics or creating a separate distinction could be a good thing. So many CPA's don't stay in public their entire careers yet that is what the masses think when they hear the word (audit and tax). Part of the labor pipeline shortage is a massive failure to educate students of the many other professional opportunities within the industry outside of the audit and tax world.
I completely agree but will take it a bit further and say there should be test out options. I do not have 160 credit hrs but I have 8 yrs of accounting under my belt and I think I should get credit and be able take a CPA or CMA based on time served.
I could care less. I took BS classes at community college to get to 150 credits. Nobody cares about your masters if you have the credential.
This is spot on! I took bowling, geology, nutrition and several other classes unrelated to the CPA exams.
Some states have never required a master degree and have always required specific classes. That isn't really changing. Just reducing the number of unrelated classes you can take.
Also, most new hires aren't that great at their job anyway. It's our job to train them into valuable team members.
I mean I was weaving baskets to meet the 150 and I personally enjoyed it 😂🤣
Doesn't this happen in every generation?
"Those darn youngins didnt have to work as hard as me... blah blah blah..."
Break the dumb trend...
Be there to mentor and guide them.
What relaxation of barriers are you referring to specifically?
I did 120 credits to qualify. What was perfect for me is that my advanced accounting classes helped me on the exam. I don't know if they are going to go back to requiring advanced accounting classes to qualify for the exam. Oh well.
“Relaxing of standards” like people don’t still have to take a 4 part exam that has a 30-40% pass rate🙄
I be personally hold little value in the CPA. Changing the requirements doesn’t mean you know how to take a test any better.
Here's a real situation. I have a Controller who is 50 and has a cpa.. he was hired almost 2 years ago and makes 140k bc of the 25yrs of experience. I have been with the company 5 yrs and no cpa and make 70k + bonus. I was asked to drive 62 miles each way for 2 days a week to solely bring this person up to speed. And I quote from the CFO himself "I just feel that he could learn alot from you and you have alot to teach him". There is alot to unpack here but this is why I don't view a cpa certification as that prestigious anymore.
I’m sure he has a lot to teach you in many other retards chill out on your high horse there Pachuco
It’s a mess and a shame
The fact that there is 120 requirements did not make the exam easier.
I’m for eliminating entries to barriers. I had many years of relevant public accounting experience but had to go back and take additional classes while working full time during tax season, just so I can take the exams. I have my license now, and I feel like experience is a bigger deal than taking those extra classes.
