Decades ago, mainstream media would claim that we advertisers would work all kinds of calculated witchcraft into our ads; that we retouched the word ‘S.E.X’ into the dimples of a Ritz cracker, etc. Many consumers took it as gospel, while we all know it to be bullocks. We’re too busy getting ANY NORMAL message approved, let alone a stippled naughty word. All that said, have you ever managed to sneak any harmless little thing/word/innuendo into an ad?

I worked with an editor once who put a shot of the same dude on a Vespa is every manifesto film for a year. It worked everywhere he put it, too. Was pretty funny. But, was also all internal, so no one would’ve known.

I snuck the name of my future unborn son into an ad. That’s about it. No one else knew the name at the time

My favorite producer once surprised me — we had a role that needed a name tag, and the name he used was my step-son’s name (7yrs old at the time). He still has the badge hanging in his room, and since then, his name has been snuck into spots ever since. We’ve kind of made it a tradition.

Staying at the Ritz and STR in the Maldives so expecting good service and reading mixed things about tipping. I usually don’t tip much at hotels (never really thought about it) but what do people do? Lyft driver delayed picking me up 30 min, resulting in me canceling my ride and asking hotel to call me a “yellow taxi” to get to the airport because it was 5am and all ubers/lyfts were 15 min. Specifically said yellow. Hotel calls me a private lux SUV and the driver got out of the car to handshake the man who called and said hi (honestly money couldve been passed). I then get hit with a $180 ride. Marriott website says taxi should be $65. Should I complain or let it go?
