Iron Gate - trust me. Get a table on the patio around sunset - 7:45ish reservation. Beautiful.
The Inn at Little Washington is romantic and quiet. But a long haul from the city.
Went there for our anniversary last year. Their Covid protocols were impeccable and we dined on the beautiful outdoor dining patio. It’s truly a spectacular meal and experience. If you can swing it, stay at the inn itself for the night.
Pineapple & Pearl if you don’t want to make your way out there for some reason.

Minibar
Ball out and go to Pineapple and Pearl. The best meal we’ve had in DC
Found it overrated and not worth price
Iron Gate, Roses, Maydan, Del Mar, The Dabney, and Gravitas are solid choices.
I second Maydan and the Dabney. Very different vibes, but both are incredibly solid options!
Masseria, Filomina, Fiola Mare
RPM Italian
SC2 - if your looking for your grandmas Italian where you are rolling out of there and unable to look at food for a week - Filomena.
Fiola has a Michelin star and is classy (haven’t been there myself).
There are a few pretty decent spots in Georgetown like il Canale, Flavio and Risorante Piccolo in Georgetown as well
Went to Le Diplomate last night for a double date and was absolutely delicious. I will say, the environment was relatively loud due to it being Saturday and generally busy. If you want more privacy/quiet there might be a better option. Good luck!
This is not a "fancy dinner" just fyi. It's like a random decent Tuesday night meal.

Succotash in Penn Quarter is a favorite of mine. The Grill at the Wharf in SW is also great - know the sommelier there, definitely legit. Another great spot is Central by Michele Richard.
Central has gone way downhill in the past few years
Fiola if you want Italian, went there a month ago with the wife! Beautiful restaurant, amazing food, and great atmosphere and service. No complaints at all. With a few drinks each + the tasting menu it was ~$300/person all told.
Not so much a dinner idea, but highly recommend a Saturday afternoon/ evening at Stone Tower Winery. It’s a drive, but if she likes wine it’s well worth it
Cafe Milano in Georgetown!
Check out 1789 is Georgetown.
