IBM is the one with mass layoffs... Deloitte seems to be doing just fine. Pretty good growth I hear.
last layoff was in 2009.
There were layoffs?
There's always churn and layoffs, may be not mass but definitely every consulting company has hundreds if not thousands of people leaving or fired after every performance review. We're glorified contactors and when there's no demand, you gotta get rid of some supply. IBM though is notorious for managing a really tight ship when it comes to GBS and if they don't meet their quarterly goals the answer always seems to be firing the bottom 20% at the time regardless of their past performance. They claim to use analytics and data to drive those decisions but I call bs
I heard two summers ago that S&O was basically not promoting people and kicking them to the curb but no idea about numbers. Tech side is growing very fast and pulling in more $$ than S&O.
I mean they have less of a rep for random layoffs than IBM, so it may honestly feel more stable!
There were layoffs spring of 2016.
Where in the world did you read that? 🙄
Legacy AIM and am now S&A. Been here 6 years and we have NEVER had layoffs in the analytics group. We have fired people that had poor performance, and they will claim they were laid off, but it isn’t true.
...terribly. Is this really true?
I was surprised because I never imagined Deloitte laying off people in bulk. Obviously performance related layoffs happen everywhere, but didn’t know about mass layoffs.
Also - What practices are more stable than others? I was looking into A&IM and S&O. This layoffs things had me concerned.
Please let me know if this is true. Also, how are these practices doing in general? Any info would be helpful. Thank You!
D1 - Yeah I was surprised to hear that as well, but I came across this post where somebody had mentioned that there were three rounds of mass layoffs last year at Deloitte and I think it was either AIM or S&O. So wanted to ask here to get my facts right.
D2 - Oh I see. That’s good to know. Do you know if things are better at S&O? Should I even bother applying there? Things are not good at IBM so I’m looking to switch, but don’t want to move from one volatile environment to another.
D3 - Are you saying this in reference to Deloitte Consulting or Advisory?
D5 - I guess in US
PwC 1 - Oh yeah I guess I should have been clear. Sorry! I am specifically asking about the US.
D5 - I’ve referenced a couple different places so I’m trying to remember. It may have been on Glassdoor.
IBM1 - Yes, my impression was that outside of purely performance based layoffs, they don’t have it on the same scale as IBM US. But I was surprised to read this one review by an active Deloitte employee, about 3-4 rounds of mass layoffs in the same year, which surprised me.
A1 - I agree with you. I’ve seen the bottom 20% go, year after year, based on utilization and performance reviews. This year was a whole other story. I think they laid off close to 50% of the GBS US workforce (maybe more?).
Was scary and apparently it has reduced, but is still happening and will continue to happen every month, till next year. The environment is very toxic and unstable and it leads to a major loss of confidence and morale.
@D2 and other Deloitters: tech side = strategy and analytics? That's the group that the former BTAs got realigned to correct?
Spring 2016 there were layoffs that went above and beyond performance reviews. It was across US S&O.
