I earned a masters in healthcare administration several years ago, but I’m concerned that since getting my masters I’ve deviated from a path that would put me in line for an administrator position. I took my most recent promotion in clinical research because the hiring director mentioned that it would help me gain the necessary skills to achieve my goal. However, he also mentioned that I need to gain more hands on clinical leadership experience to attain an administrator position.
I’m not sure that my current experience would crossover into a clinical operations role, so I have no idea how I would gain this experience. Additionally, I notice that I tend to spend more time in position before advancing (3-4 years per role) than others in my organization who have achieved healthcare leadership roles (8 mo. - 2 years per role). With that being said I have been recognized numerous times for my achievements so this is unrelated to my work ethic. Any advice would be appreciated!
