Hiring definitely slows—but not everywhere, and not completely. I landed a great contract gig once after applying the week of Christmas. My take: keep applying, but lower your expectations around responsiveness until January. You’ll be ahead of the pack when things pick back up.
Following, will you end up at the beginning or at the end of the stack if you apply now? If it ends up being an email for example you'd end up at the end of the list, if it is sorted by first in first out instead it will be seen first.
I’d say don’t stop. I’ve had more interviews these past few weeks than in the past few months. More than one company has said they’re trying to hire before end of year, for Jan start. It seems like things are picking up, at least for me. Also if other people are thinking like this, you’ll have less competition in the applicant pool.
Don’t stop, there are randomly jobs that they need someone to start asap and at the beginning of the year.

i agree! and fewer candidates means you have higher chance and things move quicker
Yes, some do. Hiring slows down but it doesn’t stop. Roles still open, recruiters still screen, and applying now can mean less competition and early visibility when teams return.
I just hired someone starting next week, and I’m opening another role soon. Interviews for that one will be scheduled in the first week of January.
