The fact that you took a job, retail or regardless, it’s a plus… I couldn’t tell you how many frustrated parents I talk to regularly who have kids that graduated and refused to take ANY job because it didn’t align with their goals or dreams (no matter how delusional or not they were/are)… you have a leg up on them…
Keep pushing!
Best of luck!

That is not a gap. You were still working. Just not in your chosen field
They will ask and just tell the truth.
There is a gap in mine due to my father's health and the economy collapse.
It is what it is, if they cant accommodate life happening you may not want to work for them.
You are good. Especially with the long stint once you got the current role. We all remember Covid. Rallying after it was “over” and landing a job plus keeping it is a point in your favor in my view.

It should make any difference since since the pandemic started sometime in 2019 and we all had to work remotely starting in March, 2020. I commend you for working a retail role until 2022 since many people that I know ordered groceries online if it was possible.
Many companies closed for a while or didn't survive either, I was working remotely but the company that I was working for did layoff a few employee's but mostly in the sales department. Hospitals were only scheduling necessary appointments, dentists weren't working except for emergencies, hotels closed, restaurant's that were open only had takeout as an option, hair salons, etc, were not allowed to open. How was anyone going to get hired if so many companies were laying off?
I likely wouldn’t consider you for a professional role with a 7 year gap
Clearly I misunderstood the OP. The first commenter didn’t explain that for you?!
