Just graduated from law school in 2021 and finishing up a one year clerkship. When applying for a new position, would I be considered "entry-level" or a "lateral"?

I have an interview coming up with a company I really want to work for. One part is a virtual white boarding session on Miro. Any advice on how to prepare for this? I usually take my time when thinking through problems, so I’d like to know how to best prep. Thanks.

I got word last week that I received the green light from HC. I'm starting comp discussions next week for SWE Manager L6. It's a remote position and geographically located in a city comparable to Chicago or Austin (probably in between). There are no data points on levels for my Geo. Basically asking for some ranges I should go in with next week. My thoughts:
Base: 250k
RSU: 600-700 (4yr)

I'm going to ask for a sign on since I would miss out on my current bonus this year.

I have recently resigned from Deloitte India and joined Bain Capability Network, I was taking a base of 6.7 LPA in DI and started working with BCN with base of 8.55 LPA, Now I got to know that another individual from Deloitte got selected in same team in Bain for same role ,and position with same base in DI , but been offered 10.5 LPA by bain since he had offer from other organization and he managed to negotiate to have 10.5 LPA base.
I am little bit disheartened 😐

As a hyper-self-aware person, I’m always surprised when people aren’t. Not silencing phones/watches, gabbing loudly out in the open, sitting in an office with a call on full volume for all to hear.

It's been 2 months I have joined a new company. Here i'm unable to perform well all the time I feel insecure. As the technology is new to me and Due to more work pressure and strict project timeline i feel low and nervous all the time. i feel I'm dumb not able to solve simple problem. I’ve been working as a management consultant for 3 years in London across a range of industries. For the last 1.5 yrs I’ve been internal environmental lead. I created our sustainability strategy, tracked carbon emissions, applied for B Corp, set up company campaigns and currently looking at SBTI. Just discovering RSD after being diagnosed as an adult. I feel like SO MUCH of my life has been impacted by this and I just never had a name for it. At work if someone gives me negative or constructive feedback it can feel like a punch in the chest even if I know it's not personal. Makes romantic relationships so hard too. What do you do to handle it especially at work?

The question is, is graduation from law school, not minimum competency? With this line of reasoning we are saying that law schools do not produce competent future lawyers, so should we instead switch to a system of taking the bar without the three years of a measure that frankly bar associations have deemed not an adequate measure? Dash this comment aside if it is fallible, but there is something here that has been overlooked. Competence is not regurgitation and memorization.

Why is it that attorneys always feel the need to file a TRO/preliminary injunction at or slightly before 5:00pm on a Friday, especially when they could have filed earlier. Do people really think that this type of gamesmanship does them any favors with the court?

Some attorneys have told me to use my two years of clerkship as professional experience to not start at a law firm as entry level and this makes sense if I go into litigation, but I’m wondering if I can use my clerkships as leverage for corporate too. Any thoughts?

Still WFH? What are other chambers doing for task management? Our chambers has been keeping up with assignments, incoming emails needing judge’s eyes, and written orders, all through Microsoft Planner. We share PDFs through Sharepoint folders. Although we still email draft orders back and forth, the system seems to work well enough. We still aren’t operating at our previous capacity because it takes 10x the number of steps to get a motion heard or an order entered—90% of our workload.

Ive been practicing in TX for 2-3 years at a big law firm doing mostly bankruptcy work (and some trial) and looking to clerk at a bankruptcy court in SDNY/DDE/EDVA (I am well aware of how great the SDTX judges are but I am set on leaving Texas). Anyone familiar with how many apps these judges normally get or what makes candidates stand out? Are these judges generally not interested in someone who has practiced in a different market?

Change my mind: A motion to “clarify” one of the court’s orders is actually just a cute, roundabout way of asking for reconsideration.

Were you drug tested as part of your federal district court clerkship background check?

Anyone feel way over their head when they started clerking (district level, but fine with hearing appellate perspective as I’ve got one of those locked down later)? I did not feel this way when I started big law.

Is it the smart move to take a pay cut and clerk for a judge?

Little context: I was an ED student, full time paralegal/clerk throughout my law school experience, and a single mother. I did not take advantage of the law school extracurriculars and missed out on clerk application deadlines my final year (2020). Would it benefit me to take a pay cut as a transactional clerk by about $20k to work as a clerk for a year then re-enter firm life? I’m transactional and enjoy that line of work.
