Bain & Company Do referrals matter in getting an interview if they are coming from an employee in the same level you are applying for? McKinsey & Company Boston Consulting Group Bain & Company

Yes. Helps more if that employee knows the person in charge of deciding if you get an interview or not and they put in a few good words.

They don’t “not matter”, that’s for sure. How much they do matter likely depends on the size of the office, the person giving the referral (how close they are to recruiting team/partners, how performing or established they are within their level,..), and other factors (eg current business needs and talent pool, etc)

I just came here to vent. Had an interview, I thought it went great. At the end of the interview hiring managers said and I quote “ you set the bar real high” today I received a thank you but no thank you email.
I am so frustrated …

My head is beginning to not hurt and that worries me. I am used to banging it against a wall the entire day (theoretically). I work with people that I struggle to communicate with and/or they are extremely uneducated about various things that I used to think were the basics. I grew up poor and paid for everything myself; Money drives me. Where do I even begin to look to know what I should be doing?Sales is too easy, I need a challenge. I am good at inventing solutions. Ideas?

My fiancé and I are first time home buyers (both 28 yo) and would like to know what makes more sense: buying an expensive home or buying a lower cost one. Our combined income is around 400K but since we just began working post school, our savings are only $70K right now (also 30K in student loan debt). We’re buying in a high property tax state where taxes could be 4% (think 12K taxes on 600K home). Should we get a 500K house or get a 800K - 900K (which represents most I’m willing to spend)

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)

A quick note about what I’ve experienced, in my decade long career, is the real advantage of MBB or FAANG - it gives you a shot at stretch roles that are outside your expertise. Not all the time or even most of the time compared to better candidates with specific experience for the role but gives you this wildcard shot at a vast array of opportunities.
