Personally i would not accept. I don't think its a good idea to accept the friend request of anyone who has that kind of power over you. You need space.
Absolutely not will assist in doxing.
Don’t do it. Think twice before letting managers follow you on Facebook. They're not there to cheer you on or offer support—they're watching. The moment you post something they disagree with, it could lead to consequences or even land you on a Performance Improvement Plan or termination. A colleague is just that - a colleague, not your friend.
A.I.
NEVER friend your boss- in my experience - many people have regretted it. Be very cautious of co-workers also. I’ve heard many stories about negative things happening.
No. In fact, I would recommend not accepting social media friend requests from anyone at your current employer.
Best to keep the two world's separate. Companies, the Government and Universities are letting people go if they voice opposing views. CYA
A BIG no. My social media is my personal business
No reason. You are entitled to have a personal life.
As a manager looking after a national sales team it’s crossing a line if they are your line manager or you currently work with them. Best to keep work and personal lives seperate. I don’t need to see a member of my team out fishing on a Tuesday afternoon when they’ve called in sick for the day.
Not only do I never accept an invitation from a boss on social media, I do not from co-workers either.
H.ell . no
No. I never accept requests from business associates, bosses, or colleagues (unless they are good friends and share the same viewpoints). They do not need to know anything about me; it's none of their business.
Hard no. Peers maybe, but never a boss.
Your boss is trying to be more than work colleagues.
Unfortunately, it’s the new way of connection. Leaders are using ways like this to connect and drive relatability. Nonetheless it depends on your level of comfort. I accept my boss, but I don’t post anything. And when I do, I’ve learned new things about him that has made the relationship and small talk so much more relatable. I believe someone also mentioned all the other ways to accept yet create barriers through acquaintances etc.
Social media has cost many jobs…. Depends on your position and your ability to show restraint in your posts.

Meh, my old VP and I were connected on all the platforms. We’re also a little older so all of our content was related to kids and whatnot anyway.
I would never accept a current boss as a friend and extremely limited coworkers for several reasons. I take it to the extreme of making sure I dont even use my real name nor mention where i work on any of my social media. #1 my boss of 10 years is very religious. I am not and I discuss these things on my social media. I do not want them altering their opinion of me based on my religious beliefs #2. This is TMI but truth is I am a swinger and most of my friends on social media are from that social aspect of my life. It is bad news to mix those two worlds together. It would be impossible for them to judge me as an employee with these two things at the forefront of what they know about me.
Linked In only for possible job connections. The rest (which I don't have) Is your personal life and treat it as such.
You’re a real geologist?? That’s so cool!
Absolutely not. LinkedIn is the only professional-circle social media we need. I would add colleagues there regardless of rank, and because that option is available I would not add them anywhere else.
As others have hinted, I would perceive any such request as a threat.
Well its ok to say yes, but if you are one that's likes to post everything, and you call in and post what you did on that day you missed, well goodluck.
It’s odd for them to request you. I’m a manager and would never initiate that with one of my direct reports, as to not put them in such a weird position.
No definitely not put your boss on social media because you never know if you offend people and what happens afterwards?
