Do y'all have any tips or insights about switching from client to vendor side research?

I'm making the jump from client side to vendor side soon. And also a jump from individual contributor to manager. While I've been in client facing sales roles before, I've only ever worked on the client side in consumer insights. Any advice on making this switch is appreciated!

While I haven’t made the same jump, just want to wish you the best of luck. Having been on the client side, I’ll expect you’ll have an advantage knowing what the client wants and successful relationship building.

I’d suggest targeting an “account management” (farmer) role, not “new business” (hunter) roles. The former will allow you to leverage your SME skills and likely reward your potential for relationship-building that would arguably be superior to most given your client -side experience.
If you’ve had a role in managing vendors/solution providers and/or some command of the sort of tools a potential employer offers, that’s huge too.
I know from personal experience that providers find time on the client a big plus when reviewing resumes.
Go for it!

I know the question is more about switching to supplier side, but since you also mention moving to managing my advice is to seek management training. Being a good researcher or even client relationship manager doesn't always naturally lend itself to being a good team leader, and humbly seeking training for the skills for that new role you're stepping into can make a big difference to those who will report to you. Having a manager who works to be a good manager not just a good insights researcher can have huge impact on a team!

Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).

Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.

Thanks for the help!

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

Hello, first post here. Outside sales, merchant services/card processing. I’m primarily a welder but I work 4 10-hour shifts typically then I try sales the last three days. I’ve done it long enough to where I’m confident and comfortable going to new businesses, establishing some rapport with business owners. But it seems like a lot of businesses see this as a waste of time, even adding services and cutting costs. I guess either I’m looking for advice or considering not doing this anymore.

So today was my first day on a stimulant (diagnosed as an adult), and everyone says its suppose to feel like *boom* magic, or normal (?) , I guess. Knowing that is figurative, what should I actually be expecting? I feel mostly the same, I think, though I came in and actually did started my work today. But I mean, somedays I do that...I just don't want to psyche myself out if I'm expecting too much. Or pscyhe myself in if I actually might not be experiencing what I should.

Question on switching from provider side to brand/client side…
I’ve been on the “solution provider side” to brands CPG/retail insights and innovation teams, largely in account management (sales) for B2B syndicated database/SaaS providers.
I’m looking to break into an insights/innovation-type role on the client side.
Any suggestions on addressing perceived experience gap because I’ve always been on the pricier side? Are industry certifications helpful on a CV?
Lots of questions, TIA!
