Never
I actively avoid job apps that require it

Same! Finally hit the point in my career where I also now ignore most jobs that don’t list the salary range.
Who applies for jobs. The recruiters just beg.
My new goal is to make the recruiters of other firms simp for me (Types it into workday)
Never.
Not even once
Rising Star
The dinosaurs of companies actually require it
If I were a hiring manager and someone sent me a cover letter I would reject their application (lol sarcasm)

I won’t ever write a cover letter again but have caved in on the occasional “message to the hiring manager”. Two sentences for that section is far less painful and annoying than a full cover letter.
Chief
Precisely.
Naur I would never do that but for internal roles I do a short write up
Hell nah
If it’s a top 3 all time role (like first FAANG, MBB job). Otherwise not worth
We don’t require it, and I wouldn’t write one for my next role
So y’all only submit resumes? So many jobs I’m looking at right now require cover letters. Or at least give you the option to submit
A1, didn't know that, I just used to apply to easy apply jobs only, did like 10 a day.
No
I never write one. And I assure you a recruiter or hiring manager doesn’t want to read it either.
Only time a cover letter is advised if perhaps you’re exploring a major career change and need to explain it, or something like that.
KPMG1 I’m interviewing at your firm on Wednesday and I’m not explaining myself 😉 jk. I agree with the narrative but I think so much of that can be astutely handled in the interview.
Can you please tag MBB people?
D1 they don’t have a sense of humor tho lol
Not unless required

I’ve looked at hundreds of resumes as a hiring manager. Maybe 10% had cover letters. Only 1 of those cover letters actually benefited the candidate in my decision making.
Chief
No effect. Basically the resume wasn’t as strong, but the cover letter added personality and effectively conveyed how hungry this person was.
