Do you all have some resource recommendations for upper level math? Specifically for Algebra II and higher? I've used Khan, TPT, and desmos before. I look at Pinterest for ideas, but what are some of your go-to's for those that teach it.

I find Kahn very boring, if I find it boring, I am sure the kids do to.

I always point the students towards Kahn; the videos are a GREAT supplement when you get to tough topics. I've taught Calculus and currently teaching AP Stats and Intro to Stats

Thank you!

Deltamath is great

Thank you!

I've always used and been successful with Kahn. Algebra II always seems to be the make-or-break level for my students, and those videos have been helpful for many on the verge of breaking.

I hate Kahn with a passion. I worship Desmos activities and making my own in Teacher Desmos.

Could use some help with an awkward dynamic.

My Dept has been tapped to help another dept promote a DEI study. The client dept has hired a consultant in this area. The challenges I see with this consultant's work style:

-dominating conversations
-micromanaging things outside her area
-steering things toward her own promotion over our company's agenda
-people in my dept (mostly white) are visibly uncomfortable and reluctant to interrupt or contradict her (black woman)

Does anyone have ideas for balancing digital vs pencil/paper learning in math?

I LOVE to program and use Desmos activities for their interaction and immediate feedback. Plus our state tests are completely digital, so it gives students experience entering math equations digitally.

But there is research to show that the physical act of writing things out helps transfer them to long term memory. And the SAT and ACT are pencil/paper. So... thoughts?

I’m starting my first teaching job mid-year teaching Algebra 1 and Honors Geometry. Any advice?

I have been tasked with finding a good diagnostic tool to assess math skill growth from the beginning of the year to the end of the year for grades 1-8. I've used generic tests in the past, but haven't ever found anything that really did much for me. Doesn't need to be a free item, just good. What do you use and do you like it or not? Not looking for a curriculum program, just a good diagnostic tool.

I was given a pie for teacher appreciation week.
The note said "I figured nothing would make you happier than knowing I asked for two pi of a pie, and proceeded to try to explain the unit circle to the bakery guy at the store. Thanks, for ruining pie, but making me love pi"
I actually felt appreciated.

Most of my Algebra 2 students are still doing works remotely from home. My Algebra team is relying on DeltaMath for assignments and tests, and kids are completing them within minutes of posting (spend like 30+ seconds per problem on average). I decided to ask for works from kids as part of the assignment grades, and to my surprise (not really), kids are using apps and just copying to the teeth. My admins will likely make me stop giving 0 to these assignments. Is this a battle worth fighting for?

We work very hard to do what is best for these students. It is exhausting and frustrating to constantly be undermined by administrative policies that push these students through the system. We deal with a lot of cheating, behavioral issues, and some teachers/parents doing homework for their students just so they can pass the class. We are all failing our students! How can we work together to correct all of the wrongs and make them right?
