No, that defeats the purpose of a day rate.
Anything over 8 hours is charged by the hour, or I work less hours another day to balance it out
Same. 8 hours is my defined working day. Anything more than that is charged by the hour.
usually 12
I’ve heard of some freelancers doing up to a 10hr day
Seems to be the case. Why is everyone giving away labor for free?
I do 10.
I book day rates by calendar. If client BOOKS me for 2 days, they get the discount. Maybe an hour or so over typical, depending on circumstances.
Favorite clients sending me a ton of work occasionally get comp’d a day rate within my billing, but that’s invisible to them unless they ask (& they never do).
I adjust my billing according to how client wants to see it usually, but do not break it down by hours.
I quote an hourly rate up front, then bill by project - with notes on invoice.
I keep track separately in case theres an error (I'm not an accountant!) or question.
