SAMEEEE.
In all seriousness, I feel like the chase as a college student is so ambiguous and challenging, that it makes it more exhilarating. But when you get the job, you realize there are lots of people on the same level as you, and you feel… unappreciated. Suddenly, you notice the hype doesn’t live up to its name, and reality sets in. You are a full-time employee, working insane hours doing mindless work. Sure, you have the prestige and good pay, but you soon realize that there is more to life than a good job and money. And what deepens this realization, is the fact that you have no time in the day to stay healthy and fuck around like you did as a college student. You start to understand how hard it is to manage you time, and how you spend your energy. Then.. you think.. why the fuck am I working so hard when I could spend my time and energy doing things that actually make me happy. You also start to notice how your employer truly does not give a flying f*ck about you. Then BOOM. No longer motivated, doing the bare minimum, all while trying to figure out what truly makes you happy.
Brother/Sister, relax. You don’t always need to be doing the most to progress your career. Also, don’t compare yourself to others. Only you know what’s best for you, and if you’re out of batteries, then maybe it’s time you take a break to recharge. If you’re doing fine at work and the quality isn’t being impacted, just chilllll, work life ain’t that serious.
Obviously you’re motivated by achievement and goals, i.e. college degree, 4.0 gpa, internship, etc. What goals do you have now or want to achieve in this job? Where can grow and go? If none, then it may be time to consider something other path. 🤷🏻♂️
What keeps you going in your job and in life? Where do you get your motivation from or what's your goal?
“Good student who lost the motivation to learn” sounds like burnout. Do you still have motivation to learn fun things like new hobbies?
If your motivation is completely gone, get evaluated for burnout and other mental illnesses. These are very common after Covid. If you have burnout symptoms, TAKE IT SERIOUSLY because it gets worse if you ignore it and can really damage your health and career.
If you’re still interested in life in general, this might just be a healthy and normal shift to a new stage of life. In school you work to better yourself; in a job you work to better a company that may not give two shits about you. It’s natural and healthy for you to give less energy to the company and more to your self, your family, and your future.
No, since I started working I devoted all my time to my job, which was convenient with the long hours. I stopped seeing friends, practicing hobbies, and my mental and physical health both deteriorated. I left a few months ago thinking the break would help but things have only gotten much worse because I don't have my job to distract me so I'll try therapy like you suggested
Maybe you’re in the wrong sector? Went into college Cyber Security, came out Businesses/ finance sector. Lots of time to find your true work passion. Cheers my friend😎
I felt that way. I switched jobs at our company from the enrollment side to the contracting side and since then have found my ambition and purpose again. I can see my contribution making a lasting impact on the organization which in turn fulfills my want to make a difference in peoples lives.
