What industry would you align to? Culture is decent particularly on the collaboration side. WLB is honestly a challenge right now due to more work than we have people for and staffing can’t keep up. But I think that’s a M&A wide issue
I think others commented but depends of size of engagement. As a new Director you would likely start with one thing at the time and if you’re doing larger scale post-sign work I would have spect there you’re dedicated unless you’re more of a SME
Not true! Really like it here and have done both ODD and Deal execution. Both awesome teams! We’re just growing like crazy so looking to expand the team so quite worth your consideration
I’ve actually gotten to do quite a bit of both. PE clients do tend to be more intense in my experience but I’m aligned to a high-growth, technical industry so tend to do what needs to get done for whichever client is on the docket
Firm culture is good - I’ve been at other big 4 and non big-4 consulting firms. We are matrixed like all big 4. You will have a service and industry focus (but ideally can deliver / sell across services...and in some cases industries). As a director it depends how many projects you’ll lead. Right now we’re so busy you may have two. That said, if it’s a large project you may focus solely on that project. Conversely if you’re doing a smaller ODD, you may be asked to take a second. New directors tend to focus on one and more experienced may be expected to take two. The firm doesn’t pressure “eminence” like Deloitte - Client delivery is the most important contribution. In general folks are collaborative and help one another willingly...elbows aren’t nearly as sharp as some other firms.
I should add that you will do both PE and corporate projects. Also, you will do non-m&a performance improvement work and both buy- and sell-side deals. As a director you have some latitude to pick where you play, but better in my experience to be flexible and versatile athlete
What is the WLB like Pepi ?
PEPI leadership talks a big game, but it’s still mostly dictated by the client and the work required. That said, you are only staffed on one project at a time, so you aren’t getting pulled by multiple MDs
WLB and culture depends on the team/industry alignment. On the C&R side, I have found the people are fantastic to work with, from the top down, and WLB has been fairly reasonable.
On diligences, usually one meaty one or a few smaller ones at the same time. But it depends. This year we’ve been very busy.
How does the pay align with A&M?
Sorry, no. The numbers above are base + bonus. But a bonus of $150-250k is well within the realm of possibility depending on utilization
We don’t hire out of mba bc it’s too expensive to match competitive pay to others. Take that as you will.
Honestly not sure but I think base is in the $150-160k range
OP, can I DM you to discuss your experience in PEPI? May have helpful insight for you as well on the KPMG Strategy side.
Absolutely
