I was working for Anthem Blue Cross when it merged with Elevance Health. The culture immediately changed and so many people either quit or got laid off. It's a terrible environment to work in.
There have been significant changes within the organization, including multiple rounds of layoffs—some anticipated, others unexpected. The culture has shifted to resemble that of many large corporations, where frontline employees often feel undervalued regardless of their experience or tenure. The company’s focus appears to have moved from prioritizing client mental health outcomes to operating primarily as a large business entity. Despite these changes, many associates remain committed to advocating for and supporting clients, even amid growing challenges.
Ive been with org for 8+ years and have started as a medical director for Anthem, rose the ranks to RVP and was fired after 4 years in the role for company savings on salaries. Other older RVPs also fired. I stayed on in a lesser role, preserved salary and benefits. Can't say I love the company as I did. Lots of internal pressure to compete with UHC, and senior leadership really has no clue how the production people do their jobs. I don't think they want to know or they would tear the company apart. Lofty goals produced by them, but no reality on how the work is done in the trenches. Culture has fallen dramatically. Just enjoying the paycheck, but not what it used to be.
