Does anyone know a legitimate reason for a real EA’s name to not appear in either the IRS list of active EAs or the RPO Directory of Credentialed Preparers on the IRS website? Someone I work with is claiming to be an EA but I am not able to find their name.

Then they are probably not an EA. Just like CPAs are searchable on state websites.

Only thing is the legal first or last name doesn’t match due to the name change is the only thing that I can think of. Otherwise that information should be readily searchable.

Did you search for the EA license number?

EA is issued by the IRS. If the employee with EA was able to handle matters on the taxpayers behalf with no issues then they should have a valid number. Maybe there is a mismatch somewhere in the system or middle initial or something?

Form 2848

Enrolled Agent—enrolled as an agent by the IRS per the requirements of Circular 230.

If they prepared the POA and included themselves on it, and they have an EA, they can speak on taxpayer’ behalf. The fact that you can not find them when searching for them in the IRS data base could be due to a typo in the IRS data base or on the POA. That will be identified when the EA calls the IRS to speak on the taxpayers behalf and IRS can not match the information.

I would not automatically assume the EA is not legitimate.

My parents are visiting this week and mom and I made dinner tonight. Salmon is seasoned with Trader Joe’s ajika (a Georgian spice blend) and we just roasted the broccoli. The standout is the mejadara. It’s spiced rice and lentils with fried onions and is popular throughout the Middle East. We used the recipe from Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi’s cookbook, Jerusalem.

Current market rate for federal tax S2 in NYC?

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?
