Sounds like over those 8 years you still have a lot of learning to do. If you haven’t asked the salary range and they have mentioned it then the salary is whatever it needs to be for the right candidate. Usually I try to figure this out from the get go if that’s all the position is about. Although, it sounds like you won’t be a good fit based on your ask. After 8 years it’s more than just base salary; obviously total comp package but also personal & professional growth and long term aspirations. It’s not just about the salary but it’s an easy way to end all conversations.
