Is HARMAN really recruiting for permanent remote roles? Would they ask us to come to office after sometime? I am a bachelor woman supporting my sickly parents and can't move them out of city. And my city don't have harman office. HR did mention permanent remote, still want to confirm as I've heard many cases people were called back across different product based companies. It can backfire too, as companies nowadays have more candidates available and they may not take risk on someone who claim to hold multiple offers.
A better strategy is to ask for Job Title and Grade and the salary range for this title. Check the salary range from ambitionbox or existing employees. I'm my experience you will always get good hike if you get a higher Job title than your existing one.
It becomes much easier to negotiate when you know the salary range.
Companies have a range for each position and they will never exceed it if your current offer is high.
The problem with ambitionbox and glass door is that the numbers there are either not always accurate for mid to small sized companies or not available at all. While I interviewed for my current company back in 2022, there was no compensation recorded in any platform. For most large scale product/service based companies what you said absolutely makes sense. That's why in my trailing comments I suggested about fair market value.
One of the initial companies where I was interviewed, the compensation listed in ambitionbox was 11LPA, and I was offered 28LPA.

Agreed 100%
Tell them you are still exploring the options and your don't feel it's ethical/right to accept a offer letter and don't join. So within next 2 weeks you will be finalizing which company to join.
If it helps
2021 May my monthly take home was 29k.
2021 June my monthly take home was close to 70k
For me, confidence in all my HR interactions was the key.
I have failed countless interviews between 2021 Jan to May, I have rejected offers where I felt the compensation was not enough.

it might not work all the time
Yeah if you have already done the technical interview with 10/10 then you don’t need
Agree with the OP. Having done the same in my career and seeing it work, I want to share another piece of advice- It’s not about what you say but how and when you say it! You need to plan your response 3 steps ahead. So, just regurgitating the same script might terribly backfire if you don’t plan how and when to say it. It’s a subtle dance of masking your insecurity, and playing on bold steps even when you have no cards to show. You should believe you are the real deal when negotiating and yet present utmost clarity and humility to the negotiator- that you arw flexible yet know your value. Having said that, you should be BOLD wnough to risk it all, and be left with no offer! Only do this when you are willing to bring your best negotiation skills to fore! This will not be a transactional negotiation, this would be a skill you need to be prepared to master with some/ many losses!

I had the similar view initially but sadly it doesn't work that way. The majority of the recruiters will ghost you.
I have been ghosted by recruiters after completing all the rounds. There was this one company where in my last round with the hiring manager, she said I had the exact skills they needed for the role and from her side she will pass a positive review to the recruiter. I still ghosted.
In my opinion if the role is not meant for you; you can get ghosted/rejected at any point it doesn't necessarily have to be the first call where you tell them the expected CTC.

I have found that if a company says it's "budget" is x, they have atleast 1.75x to 2x ..
A company is never "too" tight on a budget if it's hiring... They won't even hesitate to offer more if the candidate is promising and requirements are fulfilled perfectly...
But these were just my observations ...
.
I think Question should be banned from HR "What is your current CTC"
there is a high chance that they will reject the candidates who lied to them about their current CTC, after seeing their original CTC even though you cleared all the rounds. Because in the current market for 1 job there are around 500 plus applicants are there so definitely they will choose a guy who tells correct current CTC and the expected CTC which is under management expectation range
I don't think I ever said one should lie about their current CTC. That's a stupid move. The objective is to not reveal the current CTC, if your expectation is to switch with 40% or higher hike.
In the last 3 times that I have switched and in the current process of switching for the 4th time, I have always deflected the "what is your current CTC?" by answering
"I feel my current CTC is irrelevant, because I have cleared a few interviews where the compensation is exponentially higher than my current CTC"
My journey
2018 - 2021: In same company started with 2.5LPA and left with 4LPA
Switch 1: 2021 - 2022: started with 7LPA, got promoted and left with 12LPA
Switch 2: 2022 - current: 26L total comp including base, RSU, bonus
Currently in the process of 3rd switch: all the interviews I sat for was upwards of 32LPA.
I never told anyone my current CTC initally. I always lied about holding offers to understand the true budget of the role.
Dear Author, you are doing God's work. Not because you are sharing your experience and wisdom but you have started a genuine conversation where most of the doubts can be discussed. There is no one answer on salary negotiations but conversations here would definitely help me to gain confidence. Thanks again :)

what if they insist on showing the offer letter? :)
Hey, I have added a comment thread explaining what to do if they ask for offer letter. Unfortunately, I am unable to pin the comment on top.
The thing is I just need the Job so I can learn apparently I love learning new things if a company is offering salary which is good enough to keep all my families problems(food, shelter and health) that is good enough for me I don't negotiate if they offer good salary then its fine with me because only growth I need to experience is at learning and try new things
Its just my perspective no need to bully me everyone wants money I understand
My new firm is asking me to share offer letter of other companies that I have to match my offer. I said I can mask the name and brand and just send the CTC components as it is unethical to share offer letter. They said they agree the part that it's unethical but still insisting me to share the offer letter with disclosure as it's common practice in India. should I share ?
As you are willing to share the offer letter, the main question is, do you really hold another offer? If yes, I don't think there is much harm in sharing the offer letter, unless you have explicitly signed a NDA.
End of the day you need to judge whether this can be used against you. In past I have shared my offer letter and it has worked in my favour, but not sure if that will always be the case.
At present, I straight away let them know that, I have asked the offer letter not to be released until I finalize to join the company as I feel it's not the right thing to accept a offer letter and not join the company.
What if i really want this job but i can't bluff them for higher LPA because they have that slab range then what should i do for that condition to ask for 50 70% hike
I agree. If the job is really important, it's not worth taking the risk, ask the best what they can offer.
👍
It depends on the situation and which company you applied for not every recruiter will take it in the same way.
