Dumb question: is it appropriate to say the name of a client in an interview? If for example, I am asked a behavioral question I’d love to say the names of some of the clients I’ve worked with. But don’t want to come off as a breach of trust or anything.

No names EVER. Client and firm confidentiality is important. An example that comes to mind
- “when I worked at a consulting company that is harder to get into than Harvard, my client counterpart, who shared his name with the manager of the Scranton branch manager in “the office”, at a credit card major, not named visa, master card or discover, contracted my company to develop a business case for leveraging a social network that was the subject of the movie “the social network” for internal collaboration.”

I mean, as long as they have a pretty common name (e.g. Mike, Sarah) and you stick to first names I can’t imagine the interviewer would be able to identify them.

funnylike

No. I’ve been on the industry side for 8 months now and have interviewed/hired several ex-consultants. I deal with way more in-the-gray sensitive data now. If you can’t follow the black-and-white rules in consulting, I can’t trust you here.

Also the more ambiguous the client, the more freedom you have to exaggerate their accomplishments

Thank you, I was in internal consulting before, so my client was obviously always the company I worked for. This is the first time I’m interviewing for a company post working for an external consulting firm so just wasn’t sure. My gut said no, but this explains ‘why’ nicely.

This sounds weird, id be totally ok to bring up client names as needed in an interview, not in the resume though

Would this apply to public sector clients?

No. Public sector clients are generally public knowledge (eg via FOIA) as are major deliverables.

like

Don’t ever mention names

You’re an SM and seriously asking this? The answer is no

Can you say "global search engine company" or "social media company"

Too obvious I can tell youre referring to Bing and MySpace

How would you approach an interview process where the company sounds exciting but you feel confident the role would not be a growth opportunity for your skill set? Long post alert; I have been interviewing with a b4 for a senior con role since Mar end. Cleared all the rounds including case study and got strong rating as well as good feedback. Fast forward to last week, the talent POC calls me up and informs that she has asked the business if the position is still open, because now they just need the business approval to roll out the offer. I immediately felt demotivated as to ‘why now’ after all rounds have been cleared (continued in the comment below)

Got an offer for SE III at a large tech company. Product I'd be working on interests me and I think I could grow more than in my current role.

Currently I make 180k base and have ISO/RSUs @ startup (60k/yr worth on paper, but won't be worth anything for a few years, if at all).

The offer is:
Base: $166,500
Target Bonus: 10% ($16,650)
RSU: 120k total (30k/yr)

Thoughts on offer? Should I counter?

Additionally there's a yearly target RSU bonus about equal to the cash bonus. Thoughts? 4.5 YOE
