Bain & Company Boston Consulting Group is too slow. For anything you wanna do inside the organization, 12 months of tenure is required. Even for promotions its the same no matter hoew exceptionally you perform.
Whereas Bain & Company has no such minimum tenure requirement. My colleague got promoted in 4th months of joining right out of college.

Depends on the firm. If a firm has a smaller litigation group, for example, then they will be more selective. Probably more mid and boutique on the litigation side but I don’t know (biglaw here). You shouldn’t base your transactional vs litigation decision based on this though.
Thanks!

The top lit firms require the highest grades out of law school. I find you can have a slightly lower GPA for corporate. Just my experience as a Houston recruiter.
Assuming you are asking as a law student rather than a lateral. If your grades are good (top 20-30%, although there are always exceptions), and you can go into big law or a large mid-law as a summer associate, it’s easy to go into transactional or litigation. You just need to get your foot in the door and decide what you like.
If you weren’t lucky enough to land something during your 2L summer and are looking for a first job to start after the bar, it seems like litigation is easier to come by. Transactional positions are still out there (some big law firms will still hire first year associates that didn’t summer with them, but again, grades), but there are many more small/mid/boutique litigation firms that won’t be as choosy about grades. Large litigation boutiques like Beck Redden or Susman are not easy to get into, you have to have good grades (Susman requires a federal clerkship).
There are exceptions to every rule but it’s difficult to answer your question without knowing your circumstances.
Thanks for your very detailed response! I’m leaving this intentionally vague as I don’t want to reveal my identity, but this info was very helpful!

But I agree with A1 that there are SO many more lit openings by number vs corporate. Corporate is only a Big Law practice with a few exceptions.
