It’s important to have a partner mentoring you and opening doors. I’d agree that if you aren’t feeling that then you probably aren’t on that track. If you’re 2+ years at a firm and they aren’t investing in your development, I’d say it’s time to lateral.
Trust your gut, nobody is going to tell you until its too late. If you're a sixth year or above leadership and BD (or adjacent) opportunities will start coming if you're a made person.

If you can already see a disparity in how people in your class year are being treated, then you already have your answer.
If you can't, you figure out what track you're on by chatting with your classmates and seeing who's getting what opportunities. Also make sure you're explicitly asking for opportunities that would put you in a good position for leadership roles. If John always gets whatever experience he wants, while they keep saying unfortunately they couldn't make an opportunity for you this time, but maybe next time, then you already know what's going on. Etc.
