Exotic specialists, is there much of a difference in dealing with exotic owners compared to the clientele in general practice?

Yes and a lot, having a domestic animal is very different from having an exotic animal, but the owners believe that the deals are the same and they are not. They often make mistakes that compromise the health of their animals and usually do not accept the advice that we give them as professionals.

My veterinary clinic is based on the treatment of exotic animals and of course, we also treat more domestic animals, we see an important difference between the two types of owners, the owners of exotic animals do not always have a connection with their animal, and when they come to our center is almost always in extreme conditions, this bothers us a lot, and I tend to clash with these types of owners.

Yes, I've noticed its alarmingly common for exotic pet owners to have barely any idea of how you're supposed to take care of them. We've seen so many mistreated reptiles it breaks my heart every time

For sure, exotic pets get severely mistreated so often that it's honestly insane to me that we still allow just about anyone to take these creatures home. It always pains me to try to help beardies and other reptiles that are malnourished, sick, and dying due to neglect

Yes, exotic pet owners are more knowledgeable about their animal's care and needs, and may be more willing to invest time and money in their pet's health. They are easier to work with, at least in my experience

Some are as exotic as their pets, at least in appearance. They are usually very tidy with their pet's medical records and inform themselves before getting a pet out of the ordinary to provide proper care. I have also met some who only saw a cute animal on a trip to Mexico and wanted it as a pet without knowing that they must feed it, groom it and take care of its needs.

If you're being told "take your full lunch" (because by law you need to be given a certain amount of lunch depending on how many hours you work) but then you're told, if work's not done you need to stay until it is, and now people don't want to take their full lunches because it means they'll have to stay after work longer, is that coercion a violation of any federal labor laws?

Veterinary medicine is always an adventure, and it's even crazier when you're out in the country…. today I've tended to a goat, two alpacas, and a llama (all live on the same farm) and I swear I have the best job ever

I need help. I think I’m being underpaid at my job I’ve been at for 3 1/2 years. I’m a full time receptionist for a veterinary hospital but I also manage the reception area (I answer all questions and if someone makes a mistake I’m the one the fix it) and am an in house trained veterinary assistant but can do a techs job (unlicensed) and I do help the technicians out anytime they need and I’m only getting paid $13 an hour while a crew member at arbys gets paid $15 . What should I do ?

I’m a very experienced veterinary assistant who has been doing this job for about 4 years in total however because of my skill level I would say I am more of an unlicensed technician. I’m looking for input on what I should ask for a raise. Given the minimum wage, I make about $5 over but that hasn’t really changed to match inflation of living, etc and truly feel like I should be making a decent amount more given my skills. Any helpful advice?
