Happened for me last year! Without the mid year eval SC1 mentioned. Just have to ensure you get enough people on your side, including your counselor! And help your counselor by doing some leg work - reach out to your ‘cheerleaders’ and ask them to send some info to your counselor about you performing at the next level and your quality of work. For this performance year that’s ending in a month? Really really late in the game to be trying to pull that off so I would say doubtful. If it’s next year then that’s on schedule, not early.
SM and I have spoken for maybe 60 minutes total in 10 months I’ve been here. Suddenly he wants to promote me? Am I wrong to be suspicious?
Possible. If they think you are ready and came in at lower level then you deserve.

My SM said the same thing to me. Bring it up to your career counselor and they’ll reach out to your SM and try to build a case for it. I was told it’s highly unlikely (though not impossible) and I may just get a high rating instead
OP - everyone I’ve heard of who is up for early promotion this year has gone through a mid-year performance evaluation already. Granted this is the first year they’re doing this so I’m not sure how big of an impact that’ll be. It’s doubtful but like DD1 said, you can try to talk to your counselor to build a case if you also have great firm contributions to top it off.

Not everyone had the mid-year and I’ve seen the decision on C to SC promotion made pretty late in the year before. I would say you have nothing to lose just get your counselor on board and talking to the SM that wants to promote you.
