I have no idea how Atlanta is in the same conversation as the other cities. FL to save on tax income tax and CA if you want the views/canyon roads
Tampa is not nearly as cheap as it used to be, some nicer areas are on par with Boston where I live now. Atlanta is cheaper, Tampa is safer, Miami suburbs or Ft Lauderdale might offer a decent COL for the lifestyle. San Diego is fantastic but also not particularly cheap + CA taxes. Long story short, if you can take the income with you the SE has a lot to offer
Depends on what your priorities or desires are.
Beach partying scene - Miami
Quieter family friendly beach vibe - Tampa
More suburban life, access to greenery and mountains and some weather variation - Atlanta
A bit of everything albeit expensive and smaller airport - San Diego
Don’t come to Atlanta, we full
I grew up in the Atlanta burbs and still work there
It’s changed a lot recently, in some ways better, in some ways worse. The recent moves to the city have gentrified a lot of neighborhoods, and while they’ve arguably made some areas safer, it’s also killed a lot of the character of the city. Many old restaurants have closed to be replaced by chains, and casual landmarks like Murder Kroger are long gone. You see more people with out of state plates dawdling in the left lane on I-285 and fewer people tearing 110+ mph with a modded car. At the same time, the affluent areas like Buckhead/Lenox have been hit with a lot of violent crime, the likes of which hadn’t been seen for decades
Atlanta had this sort of ratchet charm to it where people were generally irreverent but also super friendly. Definitely going away the past few years
But also note… this only applies ITP. The suburbs are pretty much the same and most comparable to a blend of NoVa and Dallas/Houston
Miami or Tampa
Tampa and Miami are best for no income tax, as far as cost of living that would be Tampa since Miami is one of the most expensive cities to rent/live these days and they don’t have many walkable places (I grew up in Miami, now live in Atlanta).
Atlanta is super nice and way more affordable but you will both pay an additional 5.7% income tax (so $5,700 per year for each of you if you each make 100k) so take that into consideration and Atlanta crime rate has really gone up recently.
Johns creek and Alpharetta are great if you can afford them, for more affordable try chambee, norcross or Duluth
