Thank you 🙏
The law is “1 party state” simply put - unless you OR the other person are in a state listed in snip above, you can record them without disclosing unless they explicitly say not to. HOWEVER - please be cautious as, while not illegal, 99% of time it’s against company policy to do so. Feel free to dm if any questions!
Emphasis on state there. As in the law varies in different states.
Short answer: it depends. I’d suggest talking to a licensed lawyer in your state who will know the relevant recording and evidence laws.
Even in the states where it is legal, it will get you fired. Keep in mind, HR is there to protect the company
This is also true! But you will get a severance package to shut you up from speaking with authorities and you can sue the company and not take the severance
What state
Thank you all for your quick response 🙏🙏🙏 I’m going to rely the information to someone in California who is planning on recording… I knew it would be against policy but just wasn’t sure for the legal part.
It is completely illegal to do that in the state of California. Even if you’re in another state, we were told you cannot record a conversation in our state, which is a one party with someone in California. You’re breaking the law and you could get in serious trouble. that being said what you can do is tell them I’m record. I’m going to record this conversation to protect myself, once you’ve done that you’ve warned them and if they continue it’s legal and it’s on them.
If you are not in a one party consent state you can ask to record the meeting due to it helping you learn better
^that or record in advance. Right at the start of the meeting if you asking for consent.
