I was active duty previously, fresh out of high school. I got out because I didn’t like the active duty life. I tried full civilian life for a few years and didn’t like that much either. A good friend of mine from when I was AD recommended I look at the NG and I’ve enjoyed it significantly more than AD life. I’ve found the work to be more rewarding, the people more tolerable, and I’m overall happier.
to help others
I already had a full-time job and two kids when I decided to join the military for the extra benefits. Couldn't uproot my entire civilian life though, so I figured why not serve the army part-time by being a National Guardsman instead.
Yeah I wanted to do something for my country and local community at the same time. It's been incredibly rewarding.
It's funny how much you realize that your local community needs you once you start helping. I wish everyone had the opportunity to serve locally because I think it would make our cities a lot, LOT better.
