First day at a new job in a new market. Any tips especially on 1-on-1 with my new manager? Been over 5 years already since I had this first day experience. Will appreciate all advice! Thank you so much.

Does anyone else feel like people who are generally nice in person and on calls sound mean or stand-offish in emails and text/chat? I get that over-use of friendliness in text can come off as green/immature, but I tend to try and cushion my words with positivity or even exclamation marks/the occasional emoji to show that I don't sound completely unemotional.

Or maybe i'm just an overthinking copywriter who's reading into it too much.

Im a 6th year associate working for a company that I plan to stay at long term. Currently working under a G.C. that does not analyze anything from a legal perspective, occupies herself with mostly admin/operational issues, and doesnt give any direction on how she wants things “handled.” Just looking for any suggestions from people who have successfully dealt with this before.

How do you deal with imposter syndrome? I'm a new therapist and I work with a bunch of women who have been doing this for ages. They're all really sweet, but I can't help feeling like I'm way out of my league. I’m not from an English speaking country but I am watching a tv show and businessmen walk into a room and instead of greeting eachother, everyone says each person’s first name in lieu of hi, however in my experience working in the states, I haven’t seen anyone do this, it’s always hi or good afternoon or some other greeting first THEN they say their first name. is it also appropriate to omit the greeting?

HR denies every complaint made against him and he retaliates to the point of firing people. Very hostile. How do I survive until I find my next gig?

Lesson learnt:

Never tell your colleagues where you are joining beforehand.
Not all are good advisors, some will ruin your mind with their opinions.

How do you deal with a manager you just plain old don't like as a person?

My manager got hired with 0 actual sales experience, comes from operations and marketing. It’s impossible to take any of his advice seriously, he ends team meetings and messages with “always be closing”. Like tf you know about closing, go back to making your PowerPoints.

At what point do you walk away when bosses or team values do not align with your personal values? Boss told me I’m too soft and I should be prepared to burn bridges if it’s a good outcome for company.

Hello!! I’m starting a new job on February 1st and will also be going through the remote onboarding. I finally got the official “pass” from my background check yesterday. My biggest issue was just dealing with the company giving the check. They kept asking for the same info several times which was frustrating. So glad that process is over!!

Negotiation in new offer: I’m moving from fully remote to fully in office (with chance of hybrid later) offer for associate director in quality in pharma for 170k base, 18% bonus and 75k equity. I’ve asked for a sign on bonus as I’m not eligible for annual next year and will be missing my current jobs bonus. I should hear tomorrow (asking for 28k). Thoughts about the offer? Should I ask for more equity or is that standard? They’re public (currently ~$20)should I get the hybrid option in writing?
