First Year associate here—anyone have a good read on the Student loan forgiveness landscape? My dad offered to personally refinance a large portion of loans at no interest and another portion at 3%. Are there any reforms or benefits on the horizon I might be missing out on?

Why doesn’t your dad just pay off your loans?

like

In any case, just because my dad has an extra $100,000 he can free up for this, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t need that money for his long-term planning. I’m just thankful he’s saving me tens of thousands of dollars. He also paid for my undergraduate education anyway.

If you work for the government/public interest for 10 years your loans should be forgiven. But if you intend to stay in the private sector, this is a great offer and interest rate.

Nothing will ever help you. You’re in big law.

I try to guide them and say you want the $$$ cars but the salary you have won’t get there and you’re going to have to find a job that gets them the salary…. Then the fight starts.

Does anyone know if this is normal? I joined a vault 100 firm in September last year. The firm put me on tier 7. In January I had the associate review and everything was normal. After a couple of weeks, I got the call from the hiring partner telling my bonus and new salary (because of the firm-wide salary increase). I realized I still get paid as a 7 year associate. The partner said because I joined the firm later in the year, it’s normal not to advance in the next year. Is it? Thanks!

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? In case it is helpful, I come from a civil law country. Thanks!
