I’m about to start an internship at IBM for UX Research. I’m super excited about it, and was wondering if anyone could tell me about the design culture there or how the company is for designers? So far online I’ve only heard about the company from consultants or software engineers. For more reference I’ll be working in Austin.

As a recent Georgetown alum, you have more than enough alumni to reach out to on LinkedIn
Forgive me if I’m wrong Bainies but I was under the impression that the local office that handles OCR for the campus does first round screens regardless of location preference, before passing you on to super days at the offices. Regardless, I’d recommend networking with both offices but maybe prioritize the office close to your campus. Once you get the interview I’m sure your interview buddy can put you contact with the LA office. And switching from intern office to a different ft office is pretty easy if you have a good reason
This used to be true. Now, we can only pass you along to the other office’s HR team and it is a little bit of a “if they have capacity they will consider you” - meaning it is less likely to get an interview. Would strongly recommend applying to your more local / alum-based office. Can always transfer after a year or two.
If you go to a top school it really doesn’t matter. But if you go to a semi-target I definitely think it helps to apply to the local office
