For the attorneys who made very rude comments read the attached article before you judge.

I’ve been through hell navigating this nightmare then having to go through more paperwork when filing for unemployment. Let me clarify you are not paying into unemployment as a 1099 independent contractor unless you set up your business and have these deductions made. Again consult your accountant. I’m posting about my experience and no one can dispute my truth and what I’ve gone through.

I’m so sorry you have to go through this. Being a professional (and a gun slinger) is not easy. Especially when you work on a contract basis. Might I suggest that you include a caveat in your contract? Build some protection into your contract agreement for liquidated damages upon dismissal if the gig is for x amount of months?

When I did gunslinger black bag work, I always made sure to negotiate that sort of caveat up front. I didn’t get too much resistance and if I did, I declined the engagement.

I’m so sorry you are going through a-lot. I believe the attorneys who posted those rude and mean spirited things have allowed their hearts, emotions, and pocketbooks to harden them. Possibly they lost touch with the realities of life. Forgive them, they don’t know what they do. It is no excuse for them. I hope things are much better for you now

Has anyone here taken a cruise with Virgin Voyages? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether they are not like other cruises as their marketing collateral suggests. I’ve never been on a cruise and don’t really think of myself as a cruise person, but Virgin sticks out to me especially because they don’t allow children onboard. Thanks!

Additional Posts in Paralegals

Hi all! I recently made a change from HR to legal. I am now a paralegal II - Immigration specialist making 65-70k hourly base for a fortune 100 company. My office is situated in Missouri. Was this a good offer?

What were some effective tips or resources that helped you to learn the systems of your first firm? We feel like our firm admin/paralegal is not getting acclimated and not assisting the firm as we hoped. So we want to make sure we’re effectively training her and providing the best resources/tools for success.

I currently work at an international law firm (4 years) and recently accepted an offer to go in house. The main attorney I support did not take the news well and was very angry with me. I feel awful and beaten down as I don’t want to upset anyone but the new role is fully remote and a nice pay bump. Looking for words of encouragement that I did the right thing. I feel awful 😞

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

I have my first case review I am kind of nervous about it, wish me luck. I am not scared, I am just nervous about it.

Is paralegal burn-out a thing? And if it is, how do you overcome it?

like

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house? I’ve been in litigation for 15 years and I’m looking to make the switch. Ultimately, I’d like to get into Legal Ops, but feel getting some in house experience first would be beneficial.

Currently a paralegal at a small start up financial services company been there for just a little over a year. I wear “multiple hats” but more recently I’ve done a lot of PM work and some BA work. My position title is changing soon but I’m wondering how helpful that would be for wanting to go into PM work at a tech company. Anyone have any career pivot advice? (Also I’m only 1.5yrs old in my career so I’m definitely still new, and I have previous experience as a project assistant).

Any struggling paralegals here? Do you feel like your financial situation is affecting your productivity at work? I like the work I do but the pay really sucks. I feel like the fear of not being able to pay some bills on time is affecting my productivity. I’ve asked for a raise but that may not still cut it, and idk if that will go through or not.

(1/2) I started a new job less than a month ago at a large firm with a significant pay increase. I work remotely- which is a special arrangement. They paid for my travel to their headquarters for in-person training. After interacting with my manager and some of the attorneys, I feel like I made a mistake. Manager is demeaning and rude. A bunch of the attorneys dropped not so subtle hints that people who work from home are causing all kinds of problems. I don’t know what to do.
