For the expats in this bowl - what's your favorite part of living in Sydney, and what do you miss the most about where you came from? I'll start. My favorite part of Sydney is the beaches, I came from the Midwest and it's so nice to be able to go to the beach on a whim instead of planning a vacation months ahead of time. I miss some of my favorite foods the most though, my mother's cooking doesn't taste the same shipped 😂

Favourite part: the long summers. I do not miss the constant London rain and grey skies. Miss the most: My friends! I've made some great connections in Sydney and my work life is so much better here, but I haven't been able to find anything like what I had with my childhood friends at home yet. I know it'll take time, but it can be a little lonely

Do you avoid going to shows and concerts that restrict use of electronics? I want to go to a comedy show during the week, but there's a disclaimer that they kick you out If you're checking phone/smart watch, etc. I'm also thinking of shows where they put your phone in one of those dumb locking bags

I have been a practicing (patent prosecution) lawyer in different firms for about 20 years. I would love to do something more creative but still techie (computers, telecom, apps, etc.). I've always been interested in improving the software that practicing lawyers use (whether patent-specific or not). I am also kind of an academic at heart, but I live in a locale where professorial jobs are pretty limited and we're rooted here now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Seeking advice: I’ve been working as an analyst at a PE company for 18months 4 days a week on a part time contract and I feel like they are under paying me. I’m earning 42.2K p.a They want me to go full time as I am graduating however I don’t know what the base salary for an analyst with 18 months experience would be. My friend who works as an analyst (with less experience than me) is earning 70K. Would love to get a sense of what I should be expecting / asking for when I go full time. Thanks!
