For those in-house, how chill is it? Is it comparable to law school? I know there’s a lot of variance, but how is it for you personally? I’m a biglaw associate but considering in house

I don’t even know what “comparable to law school” is supposed to mean. School and work are two very different things.

In general in house is perceived as less intense, stressful, and requiring less hours than biglaw but I’ve heard some say that that wasn’t the case for them.

Expect to be in a lot of meetings and deal with inter office drama. You will need to be a good communicator and team member to succeed in house. People who matter to your success care less about your technical abilities and more about your people skills and communication abilities.

If you’re someone who just enjoys doing legal work and doesn’t want to spend a lot of time in pointless meetings and dealing with business people wasting your time here and there it may not be for you. If you enjoy some of your job being business oriented and learning the needs intimately of your one client, then it definitely could be for you.

There’s no guarantee that it won’t be long hours and hard work. But in general you should expect better life balance but probably less pay.

I mean comparable in terms of work life balance.

Thanks for the input l!

I'm at a POS pubco right now and it's very not chill. Looking to leave asap.

OP this totally depends where you work. At the top of the food chain getting paid the most it’s busy. Then it ranges all the way down to very flexible 40hr/wk. the biggest difference is likely owning your calendar to a much greater extend and having very different deliverables

Chill for me, I enjoy the business aspects to it. Feel more like a project manager than I do a lawyer, but I still am able to get some respect. Pay is actually pretty good considering how much less I work than those at firms do.

I’m at a large tech pubco. I don’t work more than 40 hours, but it is not “chill” at all. People are intense, demanding and kind of rude, the politics are challenging to navigate, and the work isn’t particularly interesting. But as others have said, this varies widely with the company and team you’re on.

My sister’s in-house job is relatively chill hours-wise (30-40 hours/week), but she is supervised in a decidedly un-chill way (expected to have a green dot on chat all day, update her supervisor about her goals and work completed each day, pushing for RTO 5 days a week)

Hi fellow PMs, Question for the group: has anyone here made the switch from being a creative agency PM to a digital producer or digital agency PM? I.e. going from managing creative projects like TV to managing website builds/UX projects. If so, what was the transition like and what helped you get your bearings in the new environment? I’m thinking about making the switch myself but I don’t have a digital background.

I’ve been super stressed about it and don’t know how to move on to May with the proper mindset to make up for as much time missed as possible. CA courts are still closed, and I’m worried I won’t be able to exceed (or even meet) my May goal after April.
