For those that came from big law, anyone else feel like you know exactly how AI would have made your life easier every day back at the firm, but sort of struggle to figure out efficiencies when in house? Back at the firm, a lot of task like contract summaries, diligence, and even issues lists are so much easier with AI. But I just do too many different types of bespoke stuff in-house that its actually harder to figure out how to implement AI/processes on a day to day basis.

I use it every day to tone down emails I want to send. It helps in that regard.

I get constant pressure from my boss to integrate AI but I can’t figure out how. Only like 10% of my job is drafting. I occasionally use it to review a doc and find what a provision says but it’s not much faster than checking myself.

im in house, and ai makes my life easier. you should be using for contract review, emails, developing and optimizing strategy or policy

Use it every day… all day… contract drafting, redlines, summaries, polices, emails, slacks, research, excel modeling, issue lists, red flag reviews, research. At this points it’s still human augmentation — it makes me a lot faster, but I haven’t been able to use it to truly automate any workflow yet.

Which platform handles red lines competently? This is one thing I have not found it able to do. Also, why can’t most platforms generate documents??

I’m jealous of those that actually have time to do substantive work. 90% of my work is live counseling of internal clients.

My company cut staff to 4 days/wk to save funds. I was getting requests from coworkers for docs needed urgently on our day off (fridays). I would oblige them. But then, I learned that those same coworkers had been put back to 5 days because they were deemed “essential“. I felt foolish and decided to stop working on fridays. One EVP (not the GC) in particular has been aggressively texting/calling me on fridays. How Do I tactfully respond? My out-of-office email is not enough of a hint...

Big law specialist with an offer to be the CFO and GC of a 250M AUM hedge fund. All in comp would probably be ~$300k, so about $100k less than where I would be in big law (including bonus). Potential to get involved in the business side, but most likely more of a back office role (I would also be the only legal hire - main goal would be cutting outside legal cost and streamlining processes). Does this sound like an attractive offer? What exit options would I have?

When I moved in-house a year ago as a BigLaw mid-level, I took a 45% pay cut, far more than I was comfortable with (although I was fine with a 20-30% cut). I took the job because it was a great role and I was focused on making the jump in house and developing the skills I wanted, which required me moving away from my firm practice area. Now that my year-end review is coming up, how do I ask my company for a significant pay raise (not just a 2-5% inflation-matching raise)?
